This Gugan Gulwan Community Art program is comprised of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people currently receiving treatment for alcohol, drug and or mental health issues. The program is designed to alleviate isolation and exclusion with a number of young people coming from interstate for support and treatment.

Art is recognised as a therapeutic method of engaging clients in self-healing, expression, treatment, rehabilitation and addressing any current or previous behaviours of concern. The program has a strong cultural foundation that further enhances the individual’s understanding of self.

The core objectives and outcomes of the Gugan Gulwan Community Art Program are:

• Drug and Alcohol information delivered in an informal, non-threatening environment

• Promotion of healthy lifestyles and decision making
• Healthy relationship awareness
• Encourage and promote cultural practices and understanding

The Gugan Gulwan Community Art Program runs every Tuesday from 11am-3pm at Burrunju Art Gallery and is open to young people up to 25 years of age.
